About the Altenburgs

Our farm is a family farm. We have farmed 40 acres in Grand Rapids Township, Wood County, three miles east of Wisconsin Rapids, since 1964. Over the last forty plus years, we’ve raised a family, numerous crops of fruits and vegetables, and many memories on our farm. Our four children help when they come back home to visit and now bring our grandchildren to enjoy fun times at the farm.

Altenburg’s have been farming in Central Wisconsin since the late 1800’s. I, Harold, grew up on the Altenburg homestead farm south of Plover, Wisconsin and have been farming since around age 9 when I asked my grandpa if I could help him with the plowing. He happily accepted my offer because plowing with a horse-drawn plow was not easy, especially at his age. We are proud to continue the farming tradition and are honored to have you and your family visit our farm, enjoy fun times and create lasting memories.

Over the years, we’ve had many visitors to our farm. Many of them who first visited as children now bring their children and grandchildren. Of all those visiting our farm, I especially enjoy meeting and watching the children. Each one is special; each one is unique. At one time, I planned to fully retire. We decided, however, that semi-retirement is better than full retirement. After a lifetime of farming, it’s hard to stop, especially when harvest time involves “pant leg” hugs from preschoolers and watching families enjoying their fall visit to our farm. At our farm, we raise more than pumpkins and strawberries – we raise smiles, spirits, and memories.

We offer a fun, family farm experience with activities for kids of all ages. Whether it’s a visit to pick just the right pumpkin, to choose from the farm produce at our market, to pick-your-own strawberries, or to enjoy fun fall activities, we welcome you and thank you for allowing us to be part of fun times that you share together as a family.

Sincerely,

Harold Altenburg
